Kim Sang-heon, chairman of DN Group, and DN Solutions announced on the 16th that they will donate a total of 5 billion won to establish an advanced manufacturing research space at Yonsei University.
The donation ceremony took place on the 13th at the main building of Yonsei University's Sinchon campus in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, with attendees including Chairman Kim and Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-seob, along with officials from both sides.
The donation is composed of 3 billion won from grants contributed by Chairman Kim and an additional 2 billion won from DN Solutions. It will be used to establish the DN Solutions Center, an advanced manufacturing research and education facility within Yonsei University's College of Engineering.
The center is expected to include a "maker space" equipped with top-notch facilities. This maker space refers to an area where users can freely learn and create using various advanced manufacturing equipment and solutions.
Students will be able to experience manufacturing solutions utilizing state-of-the-art machine tools, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics technology at the DN Solutions Center, allowing them to develop their ideas from design to prototype.
Both parties will also collaborate on future-oriented machine tool and manufacturing solutions research based at the DN Solutions Center, aiming to cultivate students as key personnel in advanced manufacturing technology. Support for undergraduate and graduate student participation in machine tool research and the operation of cooperative graduate programs will be pursued.
President Yoon Dong-seob stated at the agreement ceremony that "This agreement will strengthen Yonsei University's foundation for industry-academia cooperation and establish an ecosystem, significantly supporting our leap toward becoming a global innovative university that nurtures excellent future talent."
Chairman Kim noted, "DN Group aims to contribute to society by actively collaborating with academia and researchers to foster talent and technology, in addition to its core activities of enhancing customer value through the best products."
