Choi Min-jung, the daughter of SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won, expressed the opinion that changes are needed in the U.S. healthcare system in relation to the shooting murder of Brian Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Health Group's institutional sector.

On the 11th, Choi posted on LinkedIn, saying, “Many are suffering from sadness, anger, and frustration due to the tragic murder of Brian Thompson,” and added, “This reflects the enormous challenges of our healthcare system.” She continued, “The system prioritizes profits over outcomes and quantity over value, which leads to failures for the most vulnerable. The frustration many feel is valid, and this anger is a symptom of a broken system. Change is urgent.”

She also said, “By acknowledging the pain caused by the broken system and dedicating ourselves to fixing it, let us honor this tragedy and build a system that truly serves both patients and caregivers.”

As the motive of the shooter is suspected to be related to the denial of insurance payments, some insured individuals in the U.S. are now voicing their complaints about insurance companies as a result of this incident.

Recently, Choi co-founded an artificial intelligence (AI)-based healthcare startup, Integral Health, along with mental health experts who hold medical degrees from Yale University.
