The Korea Exchange (KRX) aftermarket, which allows trading of stocks even after the regular session closes, logged 1.8 trillion won in transactions on its opening day, marking a successful debut.
According to the Korea Exchange (KRX) information data system on the 14th, the KRX aftermarket's 4–8 p.m. trading volume and transaction value came to 72.24 million shares and 1.8177 trillion won, respectively. That is equivalent to 7.04% and 8.03% of the KRX regular market's 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. trading volume of 900.5 million shares and transaction value of 25.8082 trillion won.
By market, the KOSPI-listed issues posted a trading volume of 22.18 million shares and a transaction value of 1.3252 trillion won. KOSDAQ saw 50.06 million shares and 492.5 billion won in transactions.
During a similar time window, the alternative trading system (ATS) NEXTRADE (NXT) aftermarket's 3:40–8 p.m. trading volume and transaction value were 12.17 million shares and 1.7896 trillion won. Combining KRX and NXT, the total trading volume and transaction value of Korea's stock market that day were 1.05776 billion shares and 37.5583 trillion won.
Until the previous trading day, only NXT operated an aftermarket, but starting that day, stock trading orders placed by investors were split between NXT and KRX under the Smart Order Routing (SOR) system, resulting in the two exchanges effectively splitting aftermarket share in half.
Under the SOR system, if an investor places a stock order without designating an exchange, the order is automatically routed to the relatively advantageous exchange after comparing price, fees, expense, order size, and execution likelihood.
