Everland, the resort division of Samsung C&T, will start a nationwide vote to choose the name of the baby panda born in June.
Everland said it will hold online and offline voting from the 18th to the 30th to decide the name of the baby panda on its 77th day after birth.
The candidates were narrowed to five after a review by a name selection committee composed of keepers and veterinarians from among more than 10,000 name submissions received online.
The candidates, which include the panda family's generational name "Bao (宝)," are: ▲ Zhubao (珠宝, a treasure dearly loved like a pearl or jewel) ▲ Junbao (俊宝, an outstanding and excellent treasure) ▲ Linbao (琳宝, a precious treasure like beautiful jade) ▲ Youbao (佑宝, a treasure protected and blessed by all) ▲ Shubao (曙宝, a bright treasure like the light of dawn).
Anyone can take part in the vote through the Everland app or on site at Panda World. Related voting events will also be held on the social media (SNS) of the Chinese Embassy in Korea. The final name will be revealed next month, when the baby panda reaches 100 days old.
Everland will draw 21 participants and give prizes including a trip to a panda base in China, invitations to the baby panda's 100th-day party, goods featuring the baby panda's footprints, and Everland admission tickets.
The baby panda was born on June 3 to mother Ai Bao and father Le Bao. Following Fu Bao in 2020 and twin Rui Bao and Hui Bao in 2023, she is the fourth giant panda born in Korea and is female. Her birth weight was 171g, and it now stands at 3.7 kg, more than 20 times heavier.
An Everland official said, "Please show your support and take part in the online and offline vote so that the youngest panda, born with the warm interest of the public, can receive a precious name and grow up healthy."
