The business data platform corporations COOCON(294570) said on the 10th that it will expand the countries supporting global QR payments for Seoul Pay in cooperation with global easy payment operator GLN International (hereafter GLN).
COOCON is the operator selected by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for Seoul Pay's global payment and settlement, and since on the 3rd, users of overseas banks and Fintech applications (Application·app) linked with GLN have been able to pay at about 500,000 Seoul Pay QR merchants using their home-country mobile finance apps.
The company supports global QR payments in 17 countries, including China, Singapore, and Indonesia, through Seoul Pay. With this GLN linkage, payment services in Taiwan, the United States, Mongolia, Canada, and Vietnam have been added, expanding the supported countries to a total of 22. The new services will be rolled out sequentially during this month.
Foreign visitors to Korea can easily pay by scanning merchant QRs with the mobile finance app they used in their home country, without separate currency exchange or a physical card. Seoul Pay merchants can also accommodate payments from a wide range of overseas customers without building separate systems, while using their existing QR infrastructure as is.
COOCON has built a global payment network by linking major global payment services such as UnionPay, WeChat Pay, and Alipay+, as well as Indonesia's national standard QR, QRIS, to Seoul Pay. Including this GLN linkage, the number of global payment services connected to Seoul Pay has increased to 50.
COOCON CEO Kim Jong-hyun said, "Based on payment and withdrawal infrastructure, we will connect payment services from various countries to domestic merchants to expand an environment where foreign visitors to Korea can conveniently pay anywhere nationwide."
