Lim Dong-jun, head of the strategic business unit and executive vice president, has been named the new CEO of Hanwha Asset Management. The move is seen as an effort to strengthen global business and alternative investment competitiveness by placing at the forefront a figure who has led venture and alternative investment operations in the United States.
Hanwha Group said on the 30th that it had named Executive Vice President Lim as the new CEO of Hanwha Asset Management through appointments of key affiliate executives and CEOs. Lim, the CEO-designate, is scheduled to be officially appointed on Aug. 1 after a shareholders' meeting and board procedures.
Lim graduated from Sogang University with a degree in sociology and received an MBA from the University of Virginia. At Hanwha Life Insurance's investment institutional sector, Lim handled marketable securities and equity management, and built financial investment experience while serving in the global strategy office and new business investment institutional sector.
After moving in 2022 to head Hanwha Asset Management's Americas unit, Lim built a venture and alternative investment platform centered on the United States and created related funds. Early this year, Lim was appointed head of the strategic business unit and has overseen the entire alternative investment business.
In particular, expanding an overseas investment network focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and deep tech is cited as a strength. Through a venture fund managed by Hanwha Asset Management's Americas unit, the company invested in global AI corporations such as OpenAI and xAI, and it also discovered startups in advanced technology fields including defense, energy, and robotics.
Lim is also credited with experience across overall financial company management, including not only investment management but also overseas subsidiary management, strategy development, and risk management. Hanwha Asset Management expects Lim to enhance the profitability and stability of the alternative investment business based on global investment experience and to expand the foundation for growth in overseas operations.
A Hanwha Asset Management official said, "The new CEO Lim is a global finance expert who has experienced the full spectrum of finance, starting with domestic equity management and spanning new businesses, overseas subsidiaries, and strategic planning," adding, "Based on a broad range of investment experience and networks accumulated in advanced financial markets, Lim will take the helm of the global business strategy and unearth new growth engines."
