Samsung Electronics(005930) disclosed a plan to support stablecoins in Samsung Wallet, the default wallet platform for Galaxy smartphones. It did not disclose which stablecoins would be supported, but the event's sample screen showed Circle's dollar stablecoin "USDC."
According to the virtual asset industry on the 29th, Samsung Electronics said at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held in London, U.K., on the 22nd (local time) that it would expand the service scope of Samsung Wallet, the wallet within Galaxy smartphones, to include virtual assets such as stablecoins. Samsung Wallet is a wallet service that can store credit cards, IDs, and digital keys.
At the event, Samsung Electronics said, "Going forward, Samsung Wallet will support new forms of digital value, including stablecoins, beyond cash and savings," and "We will become the first major mobile brand to support stablecoins as a default feature on smartphones."
Samsung Wallet is used as a means of payment at numerous offline merchants through Samsung Pay. If stablecoins are linked to Samsung Pay's payment function within Samsung Wallet in the future, users are expected to be able to store and transfer virtual assets in the default smartphone wallet without a separate virtual asset application (app).
Analysts say Samsung Electronics is moving to leverage stablecoins as a new financial service to expand Samsung Wallet into a global digital finance platform. According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung Electronics ranked No. 1 in global smartphone market share in the second quarter this year with 24%. Apple, second with a 20% share, is not known to have plans to use stablecoins in Apple Pay so far.
At the event, USDC appeared on the demo screen, drawing attention. The Samsung Wallet screen released at the event showed a user using USDC in Samsung Wallet for ▲Send ▲Receive ▲Top up functions.
Jeremy Allaire, Circle's chief executive officer (CEO), also shared Samsung Electronics' USDC demo screen on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter).
Samsung Electronics did not disclose the stablecoins to be supported or its partners at the event. Its position is that details on stablecoin service support will be announced at the time of service launch. Samsung Electronics is also expanding cooperation with the global stablecoin ecosystem, including joining the ecosystem of the OpenUSD (OUSD) dollar stablecoin of Open Standard, a global stablecoin consortium set to launch in the second half of this year.
