Mirae Asset Group, a leading domestic securities firm, and Korea Investment & Securities Co. said they completed an equity acquisition in the small and midsize virtual asset exchanges Coinone and Korbit and announced plans for additional acquisitions.
Coinone said on the 23rd that, following approval of an executive change filing on the 26th of last month, it received approval for a change in its largest shareholder from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) on the 22nd of this month. Through this approval, Coinone established a stable governance structure and responsible management system centered on new shareholders Korea Investment & Securities Co. and OKX Ventures, and existing shareholders including Com2uS Holdings(063080).
A Coinone official said, "Based on a solid shareholder alliance system, we will leap forward as a comprehensive finance platform based on Blockchain."
Mirae Asset Consulting, a nonfinancial affiliate of Mirae Asset Group, plans to secure a total of 97.15% of Korbit equity. Korbit said on the 23rd that Mirae Asset Consulting secured 91.7% of Korbit equity on the 22nd and will acquire the remaining 5.42% on the 24th to complete the transaction.
On the 21st, Mirae Asset Consulting disclosed it would additionally acquire 1,589,859 shares of Korbit equity for 7.88729 billion won. The size of Korbit shares held by Mirae Asset Consulting will increase from 26,905,842 shares (133.47988 billion won) to 28,495,701 shares (141.36717 billion won). The planned acquisition equity ratio will also increase by 5.09 percentage points (p) from 92.06%.
Korbit said on its website the same day that it plans to continue providing existing services as they are. It announced that existing user deposits and virtual assets will be kept and managed separately from company assets under the Virtual Asset User Protection Act. Korbit remains the controller of personal information. It also guided that the purposes of processing and the scope of use will not change.
