Samsung Electronics and SK hynix both showed strong gains of 5% to 8% early in the session, sending semiconductor substrate stocks and materials, parts and equipment (SME) shares broadly higher.
As of 9:34 a.m. on the 22nd, Samsung Electronics was up 5.79% from the previous session, and SK hynix was up 8.17%. With buying focused on the two major semiconductor stocks, investor sentiment is spreading to related names.
On the Korea Exchange main board, semiconductor substrate stocks were strong. Samsung Electro-Mechanics(009150) was trading at 1,465,000 won, up 155,000 won (11.83%) from the previous session, while Daeduck was up 10.04% and ISU Petasys was also up 8.74%, showing concurrent strength.
On the KOSDAQ market, semiconductor equipment stocks also rose across the board. Wonik Holdings(030530) was trading at 17,420 won, up 1,190 won (7.27%) from the previous session. In addition, Wonik IPS rose 6.55%, and Jusung Engineering was up 3.55%, extending gains.
That day, buying flowed into Samsung Electronics and SK hynix from the premarket, and gains widened after the regular session opened. As a result, optimism about an improvement in the semiconductor cycle is spreading broadly to related stocks such as semiconductor substrate and equipment names.
