Korea Securities Depository (KSD) has completed the first phase of building its next-generation system to advance foreign-currency securities investment support and securities agency services.
KSD said on the 20th that it completed the first phase of the next-generation system project and successfully opened the foreign-currency securities investment support system (G-SAFE) and the securities agency system (K-TA).
G-SAFE is designed to respond to global regulatory changes such as the shortened settlement cycle (T+2→T+1) in major markets including the United States, India, and Canada, and the adoption of the ISO 20022 international financial messaging standard.
It also revamped the ledger structure to allow granular management of foreign-currency securities holdings, settlements, and entitlements information, and established a "year-round, nonstop operations system" that accounts for the operating hours of 41 overseas securities markets worldwide.
The "K-TA" system for issuing companies automates key schedule management such as general meetings and dividends and securities agency tasks, eliminating the possibility of manual errors.
The IT infrastructure was also improved. By introducing Linux, an open-source DBMS, and a private cloud, it laid the groundwork for applying new technologies such as AI, while enhancing maintenance efficiency and development productivity by using general-purpose software.
The depository will proceed with the second phase of the next-generation system, aiming to open in the first half of 2029. It plans to start the project early next year and promote 25 business services, public-facing services, a data platform buildout, and IT infrastructure advancement.
