Chairperson Woo Jinha of the National Financial Industry Labor Union NH NongHyup Branch admitted to the recent bribery controversy and resigned voluntarily. Woo released a statement titled "Submitting my resignation" on the afternoon of July 7.
In the statement, Woo said, "Three years ago, ahead of the 16th branch chair election, I took money from an acquaintance without hesitation, and when that became known recently, I returned it belatedly. It was cowardly, shameful, and I am sorry."
Woo continued, "I am no longer qualified to remain as chairperson. Today I convened the Central Executive Committee and submitted my resignation," adding, "To all union members and union officials, I am endlessly sorry. I will live in remorse by the side of union members until I retire."
Woo was elected chairperson in the September 2023 election for the 16th National Financial Industry Labor Union NH NongHyup Branch. Since then, Woo had voiced calls for reform at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, but stepped down about 2 years and 9 months after the term began.
