At Toss subsidiary Toss Place's store management and payment system "Toss POS," access and payment errors occurred during the evening business hours following the lunch hour on the 26th, causing inconvenience for some self-employed business owners.
According to the industry, starting around 5:45 p.m. that day, posts began appearing in online communities for self-employed business owners saying Toss POS was not functioning properly and they were having difficulty operating their stores. One self-employed person said, "Even after 7 p.m., the system was not restored," and noted, "I also did not receive any text messages guiding the status of the outage handling."
In fact, at some stores, intermittent errors reportedly continued in the payment process through Toss POS into the evening hours. Users asked other franchise owners whether they had received restoration guidance texts and whether their terminals were operating normally.
Earlier, Toss POS caused a payment outage during the lunch business hours starting around 11:40 a.m. that day. Some terminals displayed a message indicating a network connection abnormality, and Toss Place announced around 12:10 p.m. that the system had returned to normal. The company said at the time that it believed an overload occurred in the internal data processing section and that it was taking measures to prevent a recurrence.
However, at some franchise locations, the lunchtime outage was not fully resolved or the same problem reportedly reappeared later. A Toss Place official said, "At some franchise locations, an outage similar to the one at lunchtime occurred," and added, "We are responding by franchise location while identifying the exact cause of the overload."
Toss POS is a point-of-sale system used for ordering, payments, and sales management at restaurants, cafes, and other venues. As of the end of Mar., the number of installed franchise locations nationwide was about 300,000.
