With major U.S. indexes ending mixed overnight, the KOSPI also opened down more than 1% on the 17th.
As of 9:03 a.m., the KOSPI was at 8,643.66, down 82.94 points (0.95%) from the previous session. The KOSPI opened at 8,622.13, down 104.47 points (1.20%) from the day before.
The main board is being led by retail investors. Individuals are net buying 242.8 billion won, while foreigners and institutions are net selling 232.5 billion won and 18.7 billion won, respectively.
Seven of the top 10 stocks by market cap on the main board are falling. Samsung Electronics is down more than 3%, and SK hynix, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Hyundai Motor, LG Energy Solution, and Samsung C&T are declining. SK Square, Samsung Life Insurance, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries are rising.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was at 1,017.02, down 1.66 points (0.16%) from the previous day. The KOSDAQ opened at 1,019.88, up 1.20 points (0.12%), and is moving sideways.
The KOSDAQ is also being led by retail investors. Individuals are net buying 35.2 billion won, while foreigners and institutions are net selling 28.8 billion won and 6.2 billion won, respectively.
Top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks are mixed. Alteogen, Rainbow Robotics, Jusung Engineering, Wonik IPS, and EO Technics are rising, while EcoPro BM, EcoPro, Kolon TissueGene, LEENO Industrial, and HLB are falling.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 328.64 points (0.64%) to close at 51,999.67, hitting a record high.
The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 fell 42.94 points (-0.57%) to 7,511.35, and the Nasdaq composite lost 307.60 points (-1.15%) to 26,376.34.
