Prices of major cryptocurrencies are rising after news that the United States and Iran reached a peace deal.
As of 8:06 a.m. on the 15th, on CoinMarketCap, a cryptocurrency market tracker, bitcoin was transaction at $65,289, up 1.36% from 24 hours earlier. Ethereum was up 2.28% at $1,718. Solana was up 1.95% at $70, and Ripple (XRP) was up 1.83% at $1.17.
President Trump said on his social media the same day that "talks with Iran have been completed," adding, "I approve fully opening the Strait of Hormuz with no tolls, and at the same time I am directing the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy's blockade." He continued, "Vessels around the world, start your engines," and "let oil flow again." Through this, the war that began on Feb. 28 reached an armistice agreement on the 106th day.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating, also said on X (formerly Twitter) the same day that "both sides have declared an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon." He added that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement and that an official signing ceremony would be held in Switzerland on the 19th. Iran's Foreign Ministry said, "From tonight, we will immediately and permanently halt the multi-front war."
