With Jensen Huang, Nvidia chief executive officer (CEO), set to meet over samgyeopsal with heads of major domestic corporations, Naver Pay is discussing whether Lee Hae-jin of Naver (NAVER) could use the facial recognition payment service. As public attention focuses on Huang's visit to Korea, it appears to be an attempt to promote key services of Naver Pay terminals.
According to the financial industry on the 5th, Naver Pay and Naver are said to be checking whether Lee's Face Sign payment can be used at the meeting scheduled this afternoon between Jensen Huang and heads of domestic corporations. Naver Pay officials will be on-site to prepare for Face Sign payments.
Face Sign, launched on Nov. 11, is a facial recognition payment feature built into the Naver Pay terminal "Naver Pay Connect." Naver Pay is also said to be reviewing whether Lee can demonstrate core services, such as the restaurant review function embedded in the terminal.
On this day, Jensen Huang is scheduled to meet Chey Tae-won, SK Group chairman, Koo Kwang-mo, LG Group chairman, and Lee at a samgyeopsal restaurant near Hongdae in Seoul. Chung Eui-sun, Hyundai Motor Group chairman, who was initially set to join, is said to be absent. Lee is expected to pay for the meal.
A Naver Pay official said, "We will respond flexibly depending on the on-site situation."
