The Financial Services Commission said on the 28th that it approved funding for a total of three second-phase megaprojects and two general projects at the Public Growth Fund's fund management deliberation committee. With the approval of these five projects totaling 4.14 trillion won, the cumulative approvals by the Public Growth Fund have increased to 16 projects worth 12.5 trillion won.
On the day, a 370 billion won direct investment from the Advanced Fund was approved for design and mass production of Furiosa AI's Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Investments were also finalized the same day for Smilegate's AI data center construction, SK bioscience's commercialization of a pneumococcal vaccine, and L&F Plus's construction of a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode material production plant.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) previously selected six second-phase megaprojects at the second meeting of the Strategy Committee, an advisory body to the Public Growth Fund, including projects in bio and display that can generate tangible results early, as well as the "sovereign AI ecosystem expansion" project.
At this fund management deliberation committee, among the second-phase megaprojects, funding was approved mainly for projects with significant spillover effects on the advanced industry ecosystem and the broader national economy, such as "construction of next-generation bio and vaccine facilities and research and development (R&D) support funds" and "capital increase funds for the development of domestic AI Semiconductor."
