Five figures from finance, academia, and policy have declared their candidacies for president of the Credit Finance Association.
According to the Credit Finance Association on the 22nd, the association's Presidential Candidate Recommendation Committee closed applications for the 14th president on the 19th, with a total of five applicants tallied. The list includes Kim Sang-bong, a professor in the economics department at Hansung University; Park Kyung-hun, former head of Woori Financial Capital; Yoon Chang-hwan, former senior secretary for policy to the National Assembly speaker; Lee Dong-cheol, former head of KB Kookmin Card; and Jang Do-jung, former standing executive director of the Korea Federation of Credit Guarantee Foudations (KOREG).
Kim Sang-bong, a Hansung University professor, was born in 1975 and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Sogang University and a doctorate in economics from Texas A&M University. He worked at Shinhan Card and the SK Economic Research Institute, among others, and served twice as an adviser to the Credit Finance Association.
Park Kyung-hun, former head of Woori Financial Capital, was born in 1962 and graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in international economics. He is a career finance professional who served at Woori Bank and as executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for strategy and finance at Woori Financial Group before leading Woori Financial Capital. He is currently an outside director at Hanwha Savings Bank.
Yoon Chang-hwan, former senior secretary for policy to the National Assembly speaker, was born in 1961, graduated from Chonnam National University with a degree in law, and earned a master's from Chung-Ang University's Graduate School of Journalism and Mass Communication and a doctorate in political science from Dongguk University. Recently, he has been active as head of the AI (artificial intelligence) and AX (AI transformation) strategy center and as chief special adviser on AI policy for a presidential campaign.
Lee Dong-cheol, former head of KB Kookmin Card, was born in 1961, graduated from Korea University with a degree in law, and completed studies at Tulane University Law School. He holds a license to practice law in New York state. He is a finance-sector figure who served as head of KB Kookmin Card and vice chair at KB Financial Group.
Jang Do-jung, former standing executive director of the Korea Federation of Credit Guarantee Foudations (KOREG), was born in 1971, graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in law, and specialized in the Civil Act at the Yonsei University graduate school's law department. He is an expert in finance and guarantees who served as policy aide to the deputy prime minister at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) and as head of financial business at NICE Information Service.
The association's candidate recommendation committee plans to conduct document screening of applicants through the 27th. After narrowing the field to three, it will select a final candidate next month through interviews and a secret ballot. If a sole candidate is confirmed, it plans to complete the appointment process for the president next month following a vote at the general meeting of member companies.
