SK Telecom was strong in early trading on the 22nd. Buying appears to be pouring in as an upbeat outlook emerged for Anthropic, the U.S. AI (artificial intelligence) company in which SK Telecom made an equity investment.
As of 9:30 a.m. on the 22nd in the main bourse, SK Telecom was trading at 105,200 won, up 2,400 won (2.33%) from the previous close. Right after the open, it soared to 111,500 won, setting an intraday record high.
SK Telecom's share price appears to have surged on expectations of strong results at Anthropic. SK Telecom made a $100 million equity investment in Anthropic in 2023.
On the 20th (local time), the Wall Street Journal said Anthropic is expected to post an operating profit of $559 million in the second quarter this year, marking its first-ever quarterly profit, which is estimated at about 9.95 trillion won.
