Global accounting and consulting firm EY Korea said on the 22nd that, to mark Earth Day, it held a plogging activity with employees on the 21st around Yeouido Hangang Park.
Plogging is an environmental protection activity of picking up trash while walking or jogging. This event was organized as part of the "Only one Earth" environmental campaign with participation from EY Korea employees. The plogging event has been run continuously since 2022.
This year, to commemorate Earth Day, EY is running "EY Global Environment Week" worldwide and selected water as this year's common global theme, noting that, as a key element of the Earth's environment, it is closely tied to climate change and daily life.
EY Korea rolled out various environmental campaigns centered on water, raising employee awareness of the worsening global crises in water resources such as water shortages and water pollution, and carried out participatory campaigns that can be practiced in urban environments.
EY Korea conducted plogging with employees along the Han River, helping improve the urban stream environment. About 50 EY Korea employees joined the plogging activity and collected 39.5 kg of trash left along the Yeouido riverbank and park area.
In addition to plogging, EY Korea held: ▲ a special lecture by Lee Jeong-mo, director of Penguin Miscellany Science Museum, on the theme "Water – the condition for life, corporations' risks" ▲ an online project to collect data for marine ecosystem conservation ▲ and an in-house challenge sharing everyday eco-friendly practices such as using reusable items and separating waste for recycling.
Park Yong-geun, CEO of EY Korea, said, "The Only one Earth campaign was planned to spread eco-friendly practices in employees' daily lives in response to the shared task of protecting water resources," adding, "EY Korea will continue various activities to conserve the Earth's environment."
