Aluminum-related stocks were broadly higher in early trading on the 13th. Buying appeared to rush in as concerns over unstable aluminum supply resurfaced following news that talks between the United States and Iran broke down.
As of 9:35 a.m. on the 13th, Namsun Aluminum was trading at 2,575 won, down 370 won (16.78%) from the previous session.
At the same time, Choil Aluminum was trading at 1,656 won, up 142 won (9.38%) from the previous session. Sama Aluminium was also up 8.70%.
United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said it would implement a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time on the 13th.
Aluminum-related stocks have risen whenever tensions over war with Iran have intensified. That is because Iran attacked major aluminum production facilities in the Middle East, raising concerns about production disruptions.
Middle Eastern countries produce 9% of the world's aluminum supply.
