SamilPwC said on the 9th that the Korean Accounting Association's Samil Distinguished Professor (Samil Distinguished Professor) honorees are Oh Moon-sung, a Hanyang Women's University professor (service institutional sector); Moon Doo-chul, a Yonsei University professor (research institutional sector); and Shin Jae-yong, a Seoul National University professor (authorship institutional sector).
The Samil Distinguished Professor program is sponsored by SamilPwC and selected by the Korean Accounting Association. The appointment ceremony was held on the 8th at the headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
Oh Moon-sung, selected in the service institutional sector, was recognized for contributions built over a long period by working across academia and the public sphere in accounting and taxation. Oh, a professor in the Department of Tax Accounting at Hanyang Women's University, serves on major public committees including as a nonstanding adjudicator at the Tax Tribunal under the prime minister and as a member of the Ministry of Economy and Finance's Tax System Development Review Committee. Oh has also contributed to institutional development and policy discussions in taxes and accounting, including serving as president of the Korea Tax Policy Association.
Moon Doo-chul, selected in the research institutional sector, was highly rated for accumulating research achievements and influence while combining academic research and practical consulting in accounting. Moon is a professor at Yonsei University School of Business conducting research in accounting and, at the same time, leads scholarly activities as a vice president of the Korean Accounting Association. Moon also connects research outcomes to practice by serving as an outside director and advisory committee member for public institutions and large corporations.
Shin Jae-yong, selected in the authorship institutional sector, was recognized for building research achievements in accounting through scholarly papers and books. Shin is a professor at Seoul National University Business School and, while leading domestic research, has also carried out academic activities internationally by serving as an editor-in-chief of a journal of the American Accounting Association and as an editorial board member of various journals at home and abroad. Shin is currently applying academic expertise to the corporate field as an outside director and chair of an audit committee.
The Samil Distinguished Professor system is a social contribution initiative carried out by SamilPwC with the Korean Accounting Association since 2003. To advance accounting scholarship in Korea, the program selects incumbent professors with outstanding achievements and activities in the three institutional sectors of research, authorship, and service, and provides designated research funding.
