Artemis II consists of the 98-meter-tall Space Launch System (SLS) and the crewed capsule Orion. On board Orion were four people: commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover of NASA, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
The last time a crewed spacecraft was launched for lunar exploration was Apollo 17 in Dec. 1972.
Artemis II will test Orion's life support systems and assess the effects on people in the space radiation environment. The goal is to build a lunar base where humans can live in the future.
