Shares related to aluminum in Korea were strong intraday on the 30th on news that Iran attacked major aluminum production facilities in the Middle East.
As of 11:56 a.m. that day, Sama Aluminium was trading at 31,300 won, up 2,450 won (8.49%) from the previous session. Namsun Aluminum and Choil Aluminum were also up 4.55% and 2.88%.
Over the weekend, after Iran struck aluminum production facilities in the Middle East, expectations emerged that aluminum supply disruptions could occur, drawing buying into related shares. Middle Eastern countries produce 9% of the world's aluminum supply.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on the 29th (local time) that, in response to attacks on two of its steelworks, it struck production facilities of Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
