Chief Executive Officer Jang Won-jae of Meritz Securities succeeded in winning another term.
On the 10th, according to the financial investment industry, the Nominating Committee of Meritz Securities recently recommended CEO Jang as the candidate for chief executive officer.
At the regular shareholders meeting to be held on the 26th of this month, the related agenda will be approved, after which the appointment will be finalized through board procedures. The new term runs through March 2029.
A graduate of the mathematics department at Seoul National University, Jang received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Minnesota, joined Samsung Securities in 2012, and moved in 2015 to Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance as managing director for risk management. Until 2020, Jang served as chief risk officer (CRO) at Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance, and from 2021 to 2022, served as executive vice president of the sales and trading (S&T) institutional sector at Meritz Securities.
Jang was then appointed CEO of Meritz Securities in Nov. 2023, and since July of the following year has served as a co-CEO overseeing S&T and retail.
The Nominating Committee cited as reasons for recommending Jang that Jang "built a preemptive crisis management response system and actively analyzes threats and opportunities stemming from environmental changes."
It added that Jang is "a top expert in indexes and derivatives, minimizing ripple effects when a crisis occurs."
