Korea's stock market rebounded in a day and is extending gains after U.S. President Donald Trump said the Iran situation could be resolved.
As of 12:09 p.m., the KOSPI index was trading at 5,508.14, up 256.27 points (4.88%) from the previous day. It climbed as high as 5,595.88 intraday, showing gains in the 6% range.
In the main board, foreigners and institutions were net buyers of 1.6693 trillion won and 680.6 billion won, respectively. Only individuals were selling, unloading 2.2152 trillion won.
Among the top market-cap stocks, all flashed green except Hanwha Aerospace (-1.67%). SK hynix is surging more than 11%, and Samsung Electronics (8.07%), SK Square (7.66%), Doosan Enerbility (6.24%), Hyundai Motor (4.34%), Kia (3.85%), and LG Energy Solution (1.81%) are also rising.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index rose 41.03 points (3.72%) to 1,143.31. In the KOSDAQ market, institutions and individuals bought 405.7 billion won and 22.8 billion won in stocks, respectively. Foreigners were net sellers of 387.9 billion won.
Top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks are also on the rise. Rainbow Robotics (5.14%), Sam Chun Dang Pharm (4.17%), Alteogen (3.27%), EcoPro (2.01%), Caregen (0.69%), LEENO Industrial (0.68%), and Kolon TissueGene (0.39%) are gaining. In contrast, LigaChem Biosciences (-2.63%) and ABL Bio (-0.84%) are weak.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,476.2 won per U.S. dollar at the same time, up 2.5 won from the previous session.
