Macquarie Asset Management Group (MAM) said on the 3rd that Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4 (MAIF4), which it manages, has formed a strategic partnership with cloud specialist Gabia to develop a domestic hyperscale data center platform.
Under the joint venture agreement signed on the 25th, they plan to co-invest about 600 billion won over the next four to six years. The goal of this project is to build hyperscale data center infrastructure with a cumulative capacity of more than 100 MW at major domestic hubs, with the first outcome to be the 40 MW Ansan data center.
Macquarie will lead asset development and financial activities, including land acquisition, permits, and project financing. Gabia, together with its subsidiary KINX, will be responsible for data center design, network construction, and overall operations. In particular, it plans to leverage KINX's neutral Internet exchange (IX) infrastructure to support an optimized multi and Hybrid Cloud environment for tenant corporations.
Kim Yong-hwan, Korea head of Macquarie Asset Management Group, said, "In the rapidly growing Korea AI market, driven by active government investment, the adoption of AI across manufacturing, and rising demand for On-device AI, the partnership with Gabia is meaningful," and noted, "As AI use begins to spread in earnest in Korea, advancing the digital infrastructure to support it is essential."
Won Jong-hong, co-CEO of Gabia, said, "This collaboration is a critical turning point in expanding the infrastructure capabilities accumulated by the Gabia group to hyperscale," adding, "Through the Ansan data center, we will respond to the explosive demand for AI infrastructure and drive customers' growth."
