Hyundai Motor Securities said on the 27th that it will appoint In Ho, a Korea University professor and digital finance expert, as an outside director at the 72nd annual general meeting of shareholders to be held on the 26th of next month. The plan is to secure future growth engines by strengthening digital capabilities.
Professor In is one of the leading authorities in digital finance and Blockchain, and has served as a member of the Financial Services Commission Financial Development Review Committee and an advisor to the Korea Fintech Industry Association. He graduated from the Korea University Department of Computer Science and received a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Southern California.
After serving as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University, he is currently director of the Korea University Blockchain Research Institute and a professor in the Korea University Department of Computer Science.
Hyundai Motor Securities said the appointment of Professor In was driven by the need for technical understanding to establish diverse digital strategies amid rapid changes in the securities industry, such as the institutionalization of security token offerings (STOs) and the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI)-based asset management.
Hyundai Motor Securities is currently focusing on innovating its IT infrastructure, including developing next-generation systems, and is participating in the "KDX distribution platform" led by the Korea Exchange (KRX) in preparation for the expansion of the STO market. In particular, it believes STOs will become a core business in the retail division and plans to identify a variety of investment assets for individual investors.
A Hyundai Motor Securities official said, "Professor In is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the company's digital finance capabilities, based on extensive experience in the field and as an outside director."
