As of 9:01 a.m. that day, the KOSPI index was at 6,030.38, up 60.74 points (1.02%) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI started the session at 6,022.70, up 53.06 points (0.89%) from the day before.
Individuals are driving the KOSPI's break above 6,000. Individuals are net buying 380.1 billion won, while foreigners and institutions are net selling 293.5 billion won and 92.7 billion won, respectively, showing a joint net selling trend.
Most top market-cap stocks are gaining. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are each up around 1%, and Hyundai Motor is rising 4%. SK Square, Samsung Biologics, Kia, and Doosan Enerbility are advancing, while LG Energy Solution and Hanwha Aerospace are falling.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was at 1,173.15, up 0.70% (8.15 points) from the previous day.
Individuals are also leading the KOSDAQ market. Individuals are net buying 92.6 billion won, while foreigners are net selling 70 billion won and institutions 19 billion won.
Top market-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ are mixed. EcoPro, EcoPro BM, Sam Chun Dang Pharm, Rainbow Robotics, LEENO Industrial, and Caregen are rising, while Alteogen, ABL Bio, Kolon TissueGene, and HLB are falling.
Overnight, all three major U.S. stock indexes rebounded to close higher. On the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished at 49,174.50, up 370.44 points (0.76%) from the previous session; the Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 52.32 points (0.77%) to 6,890.07; and the Nasdaq composite added 236.41 points (1.04%) to close at 22,863.68.
Shares of corporations that had faced heavy selling rebounded on news that Anthropic formed partnerships with some major software companies.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market that day, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,441.6 won, down 0.9 won from the previous day.
