The KOSPI index on the 9th opened by reclaiming the 5,300 level for the first time in three sessions. The KOSDAQ index is also showing gains of more than 2% early in the session.
As of 9:07 a.m., the KOSPI index was up 198.16 points (3.89%) from the previous session at 5,287.30. The KOSPI opened at 5,299.10, up 209.96 points (4.13%) from the previous session, and topped the 5,300 level right after the open.
The main board is being led by foreigners and institutions. Foreigners and institutions are net buying 32.7 billion won and 199.8 billion won, respectively, while individuals alone are net selling 256.8 billion won.
All top market-cap stocks on the main board lit up red. In particular, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are showing gains in the 5% range.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was up 2.81% (30.33 points) from the previous day at 1,111.10. The KOSDAQ opened the session at 1,109.91, up 29.14 points (2.70%) from the previous session.
On the KOSDAQ market, individuals and institutions are net buying 46.0 billion won and 1.9 billion won, respectively. Foreigners are net selling 49.7 billion won.
Top market-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ are also all rising. EcoPro and Alteogen are showing gains in the 4% range, and EcoPro BM, Rainbow Robotics, Sam Chun Dang Pharm, ABL Bio, Kolon TissueGene, LEENO Industrial, HLB, and Caregen are all climbing.
With the KOSPI index having fallen for two consecutive sessions, bargain hunting appears to be coming in.
On the 6th (local time), the three major U.S. indexes closed higher together. On the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1,206.95 points (2.47%) to finish at 50,115.67. The Dow surpassed 50,000 for the first time ever.
The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 133.90 points (1.97%) to 6,932.30, and the Nasdaq composite gained 490.63 points (2.18%) to 23,031.21 at the close. On Wall Street, there were no clear positives, but bargain hunting concentrated on the perception that the recent decline had been excessive.
Meanwhile, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,465.5 won on the Seoul foreign exchange market, down 4.0 won from the previous session's close.
