Fund dividend payouts topped 51 trillion won last year.
Korea Securities Depository (KSD) said on Feb. 5 that last year's fund dividend payouts totaled 51.2188 trillion won, up 6.87% from a year earlier. Public offering funds rose 10.46% in the same period, and private funds increased 6.25%.
Reinvested fund dividends amounted to 28.6232 trillion won, with a reinvestment rate of 55.88%. The reinvestment rate was 90.71% for public offering funds and 49.49% for private funds. For private funds, the reinvestment rate was relatively low because dividends from real estate and special asset types, which are difficult to reinvest, accounted for a high share.
New fund formations last year came to 84.2943 trillion won, up 19.11% from the prior year's 70.7677 trillion won. Liquidation distributions totaled 44.1169 trillion won, a 16.62% increase from the previous year's 37.8308 trillion won.
Based on the initial amounts of newly formed funds, public offering funds increased 87.64% and private funds rose 14.64%. For liquidation distributions, public offering funds fell 12.62%, while private funds grew 18.87%.
The number of funds that paid dividends reached 2,942 public offering funds and 17,034 private funds, up 17.45% and 8.01%, respectively.
