The KOSPI index topped the 5,100 mark on the back of net buying by individuals. The KOSDAQ index is also up more than 3%, hitting a record high since the IT bubble.
As of 11:38 a.m., the KOSPI index was at 5,140.78, up 55.93 points (1.10%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started the day at 5,145.39, up 60.54 points (1.19%), before trimming gains in the morning.
The main board is being led by individual investors. Individuals are net buyers of 1.0497 trillion won. In contrast, foreigners and institutions are net sellers of 409.9 billion won and 605.6 billion won, respectively.
Seven of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization on the main board are rising. In particular, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix hit fresh all-time highs. Hyundai Motor, LG Energy Solution, SK Square and Hanwha Aerospace are gaining, while Samsung Biologics, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Kia are falling.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was up 37.81 points (3.49%) at 1,120.40 from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ opened at 1,093.47, up 10.88 points (1.00%), and topped the 1,100 mark for the first time since the index overhaul in 2004. It continues to extend gains in the morning.
On the KOSDAQ market, individuals are net sellers of 1.419 trillion won. Foreigners are net buyers of 269.1 billion won, and institutions are net buyers of 1.2466 trillion won.
However, among institutions, securities firms are buying more than 1.1 trillion won, suggesting most of the funds are likely from individuals. When individuals buy exchange-traded funds (ETF), liquidity providers (LP) purchase the component stocks of the ETF in the market during the creation and redemption process. These flows are recorded as securities firm demand.
Most of the top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks are also rising. In particular, EcoPro is showing gains in the 20% range. Alteogen, EcoPro BM, Rainbow Robotics, ABL Bio, Sam Chun Dang Pharm, HLB, LigaChem Biosciences and Peptron are advancing, while Kolon TissueGene is declining.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate was 1,448.8 won per $1 at the same time, up 6 won from the previous trading day.
