Tensions over Greenland eased somewhat after U.S. President Donald Trump held off on a European tariff. Most cryptocurrency prices rose as a result.
As of 8:15 a.m. on the 21st, bitcoin was up 2.04% from 24 hours earlier at $89,896 on CoinMarketCap, a global coin market tracking site.
Most other cryptocurrency prices also rose. Ethereum is trading at $3,017, up 2.61%. XRP (Ripple) is at $1.96, up 3.89%, and Solana is at $130, up 3.61%. However, Binance Coin is trading at $887, down 0.17%.
Trump said he set the framework for a future agreement related to Greenland and decided to hold off on imposing a tariff on eight European countries that had been slated for Feb. 1.
After meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, he said on Truth Social that "based on a very productive meeting, we set the framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland and the entire Arctic region," adding, "based on such an agreement, we decided not to impose the tariff that was scheduled to take effect on Feb. 1."
