On the afternoon of the 14th, the KOSPI index topped the 4,700 mark again. Opening at 4,685.11, the KOSPI briefly "touched" 4,700 in early trading on buying by individuals and institutions, then reversed lower to the 4,669 level. In the main board, institutions alone turned net buyers of 620 billion won. However, including ETFs, financial investment accounted for 560 billion won, investment trusts 30 billion won, and pension funds 31 billion won, with individual investor funds dominant. Individuals and foreigners were net sellers by 91 billion won and 680 billion won, respectively. Individuals turned to selling after being net buyers early in the session.
Lee Jae-won, a researcher at Shinhan Investment & Securities, said, "Foreigners have been net sellers of KOSPI and KOSDAQ cash equities for five straight sessions," and noted, "The timing of the sharp rebound in the won-dollar exchange rate coincides with foreigners' net selling."
Among top KOSPI market-cap stocks, a rotation is underway. With the physical artificial intelligence (AI) momentum pushing Hyundai Motor Group stocks to record highs, Kia shares were also strong that day. Stocks such as Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Ocean, and Hyundai Mobis, which had surged the previous day, turned "blue."
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was down 6.92 points (0.73%) from the previous day at 942.09 in transaction. The KOSDAQ started at 951.03 and fell to the 940 level on foreign and institutional selling, then pared losses on individual buying.
Of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market cap, nine were lower. Except for Rainbow Robotics (0.77%), shares including Alteogen (-2.51%), ECOPRO BM (-2.83%), ABL Bio (-2.77%), and Rigatem Bio (-3.31%) were at lower prices than the previous day.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market that day, the won-dollar exchange rate stood at 1,477.90 won per $1, down 0.6 won from the previous session.
