Lightron Fiber-Optic Devices has completed development of a 1.6T-class optical transceiver (optical module). Based on this, it plans to expand cooperation with data center operators and artificial intelligence (AI) solution corporations.
Lightron Fiber-Optic Devices said on the 5th that it has completed development of a 1.6T-class optical transceiver, finishing the buildout of its full optical transceiver lineup. An optical transceiver is a component that converts electrical signals into light signals or light signals into electrical signals. High-performance optical transceivers are considered essential for AI and data centers, which require large-volume data processing.
With this portfolio completion, Lightron Fiber-Optic Devices has secured not only its existing mainstay 100G–400G optical transceivers, but also the 1.6T OSFP (Octal Small Form-factor Pluggable) optical module, regarded as essential equipment for AI data centers. Through a broad product lineup, it can provide solutions optimized for environments that require large-volume data processing, including AI accelerator clusters, high-performance computing (HPC), AI data centers, and next-generation networks.
Lightron Fiber-Optic Devices has supplied high-quality optical transceivers to commercial 5G networks, accumulating mass-production know-how. Based on this, it has established a production system that can reliably supply high-quality products to meet surging global demand.
Jeong Dae-gyu, executive vice president overseeing management at Lightron Fiber-Optic Devices, said, "The explosively growing AI and data center markets are demanding a paradigm shift in optical communication technology," and added, "Based on preemptive technology development and proven mass-production capability, we will expand global partnerships and are confident we will enter a stable growth trajectory starting in 2026."
