Yim Jong-ryong, chair of Woori Financial Group and chair of the Woori Financial Future Foundation, said on Jan. 4 that he hosted a New Year's luncheon on Jan. 2, inviting eight bereaved family members of firefighters who died in the line of duty and firefighters currently injured on duty.
The event was held to express gratitude to the "Firefighting Woori Heroes" who have dedicated themselves to the safety of the nation and the public, and to hear on-the-ground feedback on the "Woori Heroes Support Program" operated by the foundation.
The Woori Heroes Support Program is Woori Financial's social contribution program that provides living expenses, medical expenses, children's education expenses, and more to military, police, and firefighting public officials who face hardship due to death in the line of duty or duty-related injuries. Since the program began in 2022 through last year, about 1,700 public officials who died or were injured in the line of duty and their families have received support.
That day, Chair Yim expressed respect to the injured firefighters who overcame major injuries to return to the field and offered condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the line of duty. Yim said, "So that the 'Woori Heroes' who sacrificed themselves for the lives and safety of the public can be respected in society, Woori Financial will continue to serve as a reliable pillar with the heart of family."
