The Financial Services Commission (FSC) said on the 24th that it held the third extraordinary meeting and appointed Kim Sung-uk, Hwang Sun-o, and Park Ji-sun, who had been deputy vice governors, as vice governors. When the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) governor recommends a candidate for vice governor, the FSC chair appoints the person. The new vice governors' terms run for three years from the 30th of this month to Dec. 29, 2028.
Banking and microfinance Vice Governor Kim Sung-uk graduated from Ulsan Haksung High School and earned a master's in business administration from Seoul National University before joining the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) in 2000. Kim served as head of the financial situation management team in the financial situation analysis office in 2015 and moved to Director General of the human resources development office in Aug. 2022. After that, Kim served as Director General of the first bank examination bureau and Director General of the planning and coordination bureau before being appointed deputy vice governor in Dec. 2024.
Capital markets and accounting Vice Governor Hwang Sun-o graduated from Chungnam Daecheon High School and earned a master's in economics from Yonsei University before joining the then Securities Supervisory Board in 1996. After serving as head of the securities issuance system team in the corporate disclosure systems office in 2015, Hwang successively served as deputy director general of the financial investment examination bureau, head of the disclosure review office, and Director General of the capital markets supervision bureau starting in 2020. Hwang was appointed deputy vice governor in July 2023.
Financial Consumer Protection Service Vice Governor Park Ji-sun graduated from Seoul Sungbo High School and earned a bachelor's in trade from Sungkyunkwan University before joining the then Insurance Supervisory Board in 1995. Park served as head of the non-life insurance consumer protection team in the insurance consumer protection bureau in Feb. 2016 and as deputy director general of the insurance supervision bureau in Feb. 2020. After that, Park successively served as Director General of the insurance supervision bureau, Director General of the planning and coordination bureau, and Director General of the personnel training bureau before being promoted to deputy vice governor in Dec. 2024.
