Investors who want to exercise voting rights at the regular shareholders meeting or receive dividends for companies with December settlement of account must buy the shares by the 26th of this month.
On the 22nd, the Korea Securities Depository (KSD) said that because settlement takes place two business days after the purchase date so that it can be completed on the 30th, the last business day of this year, purchases must be completed by the 26th.
According to the depository, if the issuer amends its articles of incorporation to set a separate record date for dividends, investors should check the record date through a disclosure and buy the shares two business days before the record date.
Shareholders holding physical share certificates must complete electronic registration under their own name in a securities company account or complete a change of registered owner by the 31st to exercise voting rights at the regular shareholders meeting and rights to dividends.
If the physical share certificates held are subject to electronic registration, by the morning of the 31st shareholders must submit an ID, securities company account details, physical share certificates, and documents proving rights to the transfer agent for change of registered owner.
If the final registered owner on the back of the physical share certificate is not the holder, documents proving lawful acquisition of the certificate, such as a sales contract or release confirmation, must be submitted together.
If they are not subject to electronic registration, shareholders should visit the transfer agent by the 31st of this month to change the registered owner, or visit a nearby securities firm branch and deposit them into a securities account by the 29th.
Shareholders whose address has changed must update it by the 31st of this month to receive mail such as the notice of convocation of the shareholders meeting and the notice of dividend payment.
