On the 16th, the KOSPI index is widening losses during the session on selling by foreign and institutional investors.
As of 11:41 a.m., the KOSPI index was down 75.07 points, or 1.84%, at 4015.52 from the previous day. The KOSPI, which started around flat, turned lower as a wave of selling by institutions and foreigners hit.
In the main board, foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 451.4 billion won and 439.5 billion won, respectively. Only retail investors were buying, scooping up stocks worth 917.2 billion won.
Among top market-cap stocks, all were lower except Samsung Biologics (1.64%). LG Energy Solution was down more than 5%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Doosan Enerbility were down in the 4% range. Hyundai Motor (-2.73%), Kia (-2.66%), SK hynix (-2.53%), Samsung Electronics (-1.24%) and KB Financial Group (-0.64%) were also declining.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was down 20.63 points, or 2.20%, at 918.20 from the previous day. In the KOSDAQ market as well, foreigners and institutions sold 352.1 billion won and 67.0 billion won. Individuals were net buyers of 472.0 billion won.
Top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks also flashed blue across the board. EcoPro BM and EcoPro were plunging more than 6%, while Rainbow Robotics (-3.97%), Alteogen (-2.29%), LigaChem Biosciences (-2.02%), HLB (-1.70%), Kolon TissueGene (-1.25%), Sam Chun Dang Pharm (-1.08%) and ABL Bio (-1.07%) fell.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate was 1,471.8 won per $1 as of the same time, up 3.2 won from the previous transaction day.
