Financial authorities said they will strictly sanction insurers' false or exaggerated advertising under a zero-tolerance principle.
The Financial Supervisory Service on Dec. 4 held the "2025 second-half internal control workshop for insurance companies" at the Education and Culture Center of the Korea Life Insurance Association in Jung-gu, Seoul, and stated accordingly, "Advertisements on broadcast media and online that stoke consumers' anxiety are flooding the market, inducing unnecessary insurance enrollments."
The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) said, "Excessive advertising triggers unnecessary business expense expenditure, which leads to higher premiums and other burdens on consumers, so please work to prevent unnecessary social expense from occurring."
Regarding the recent string of hacking incidents in the financial sector, it also said, "It is time to seriously reflect on whether, while focusing only on short-term performance, security was neglected." It continued, "Even if an emergency occurs, please thoroughly prepare emergency response plans so that operations proceed without disruption and consumers do not experience inconvenience or damage."
