On the 27th, the KOSPI started higher, boosted by the previous night's gains on Wall Street.
As of 9:08 a.m. that day, the KOSPI was at 3,995.96, up 35.09 points (0.89%) from the previous session. The KOSPI opened at 3,989.45, up 0.72% from the prior session.
In the main board, individuals and institutions were net buyers of 131.4 billion won and 16.8 billion won, respectively, lifting the index. Only foreigners sold shares totaling 115.9 billion won.
Heavyweights by market cap flashed green. SK hynix rose more than 2%, and Samsung Electronics and Doosan Enerbility were up in the 1% range. Hanwha Aerospace (0.69%), KB Financial Group (0.56%), Hyundai Motor (0.38%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.18%) were also climbing.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 882.77, up 5.45 points (0.62%) from the previous session. The KOSDAQ started at 879.44, up 0.24% from the prior session.
On the KOSDAQ, individuals alone bought 89.9 billion won worth. Foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 42.7 billion won and 27.4 billion won, respectively.
Top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks were weak. ABL Bio (-1.21%), LigaChem Biosciences (-1.13%), Peptron (-0.63%), Kolon TissueGene (-0.44%), HLB (-0.32%), EcoPro BM (-0.13%), and EcoPro (-0.12%) were falling. Rainbow Robotics (2.68%) and Alteogen (0.19%) were rising.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market that day, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,468.5 won per $1, up 2.9 won from the previous session.
Meanwhile, on the 26th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 47,427.12, up 0.67% from the previous session. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 0.69% to 6,812.61, and the Nasdaq gained 0.82% to 23,214.69.
Tech stocks such as Nvidia and Microsoft (MS) strengthened, lifting the indexes. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surged nearly 3%, with all 30 constituent stocks rising.
