ChosunBiz will host "2025 THE ESG Forum" on Dec. 3 (Wed.) at the Westin Josun Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul. The forum will cover trends in ESG (environment, social, and governance) certification and supervision systems in major countries and ways to introduce such systems in Korea.
ESG management has gone beyond a mere trend to become a core strategy for corporate survival. Corporations that need to raise capital from external investors, including institutions, have no choice but to consider ESG management.
In particular, as ESG has become a management standard that must be applied across all aspects of corporate operations, the need to clearly define certification and supervision procedures is emerging. While discussions in the National Assembly on legislation related to ESG disclosures are active, there is still little interest in ESG certification procedures and supervision measures.
At this forum, experts will hold in-depth discussions on the direction in which certification and supervision systems should be structured to support corporations' ESG management.
At this year's forum, the accounting industry, academia, ESG rating and consulting institutions, and corporations will gather to share diverse perspectives. First, Associate Professor Seon Woo-hee-yeon of the Department of Business Administration at Sejong University will give a presentation on trends and implications of global sustainability certification and supervision systems. Professor Kwon Se-won of the Department of Business Administration at Ewha Womans University will discuss the current state of sustainability certification and supervision in Korea and present plans for introducing the system.
After the keynote presentations, a panel discussion with experts from each field will follow. Professor Song Min-seop of the Department of Business Administration at Sogang University will serve as the moderator, and Kwon Seong-sik, head of the ESG Management Center at the Korea Standards Association, Oh Seung-jae, co-CEO of Sustainvest, Kim Hoon-tae, associate executive director at POSCO Holdings' Corporate Strategy Office, Lee Woong-hee, standing member of the Sustainability Standards Board at the Korea Accounting Standards Board, Kwon Mi-yeop, partner at the Sustainability Team at Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers (Sustainability Team), and Song Chang-young, managing attorney at the law firm Sehan, will share a range of views.
With mandatory ESG disclosures ahead, we welcome strong participation from those considering corporations' ESG preparation strategies.
