On the 20th, the KOSPI is strong as concerns over an "artificial intelligence (AI) bubble" eased after Nvidia reported record earnings in the early morning.
As of 9:06 a.m., the KOSPI was up 100.18 points (2.55%) from the previous session at 4,029.69. The KOSPI opened at 4,030.97, up 2.58% from the previous session, and reclaimed the 4,000 level intraday after two sessions.
In the main board, institutions were net buyers of 70.6 billion won, lifting the index. Individuals and foreigners sold 34.7 billion won and 23.5 billion won in shares, respectively.
Large-cap stocks by market cap flashed red. SK hynix surged more than 6%, and Samsung Electronics and Doosan Enerbility were up more than 4%. LG Energy Solution (1.14%), Hanwha Aerospace (1.10%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.87%), and Hyundai Motor (0.57%) were also rising. KB Financial was slightly weaker, down 0.16%.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was up 15.58 points (1.79%) from the previous session at 886.90. The KOSDAQ started at 884.10, up 1.47% from the previous session. In the KOSDAQ market, individuals alone bought 37 billion won, while foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 4 billion won and 600 million won, respectively.
Among top KOSDAQ market-cap stocks, all were higher except ABL Bio (-0.29%). EcoPro (3.53%), Rainbow Robotics (2.73%), Alteogen (2.02%), HLB (1.73%), Sam Chun Dang Pharm (1.61%), LigaChem Biosciences (0.23%), and PharmaResearch (0.11%) were gaining.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,467.4 won per $1, up 1.8 won from the previous session.
Meanwhile, on the 19th (local time) in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.10% at 46,138.77. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 0.38% to 6,642.16, and the Nasdaq gained 0.59% to 22,564.23.
Nvidia, which leads the artificial intelligence semiconductor (AI) market, climbed more than 5% after posting third-quarter results that beat market expectations. Broadcom and Alphabet showed gains of more than 2% in after-hours trading.
