Toss said on the 18th that cumulative subscribers to its face recognition-based payment service "FacePay" surpassed 1 million. FacePay began a beta service in March at some convenience store chains and select stores in Seoul and was officially launched in early September. FacePay is a face recognition-based easy payment service that completes payment just by looking at the terminal after registering a face and a payment method in the Toss application (app).
FacePay has been used for at least one payment at nearly half of eligible merchants nationwide. In Seoul, payments were made at about 79% of all merchants, and in the cafe sector, it recorded a usage rate of about 95%.
FacePay is the only face payment service in Korea to receive a prior adequacy review by the Personal Information Protection Commission. It applies spoofing detection technology "Liveness," a fraud detection system (FDS), and a "Facial Recognition Model" that distinguishes facial changes and similar faces.
