The shortlist for the next National Pension Service (NPS) chair has been narrowed to four.
On the 7th, according to the financial investment industry, four people passed the first document screening for National Pension Service (NPS) chair: Yang Sung-il, former Vice Minister of Health and Welfare; Lee Yong-woo, former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker; Kim Sung-joo, former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker; and Jeong Yong-gun, co-executive director of the Public Pension Strengthening National Action.
Former Vice Minister Yang Sung-il, who passed the 35th civil service exam, served as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination and director general for social welfare policy at the Health and Welfare Ministry, and has experience designing the overall pension system.
Lee Yong-woo, a former 21st National Assembly lawmaker, served as an executive director at Korea Investment Holdings and as co-CEO of KakaoBank.
Former lawmaker Kim Sung-joo served in the 20th and 21st National Assembly and held the National Pension Service chair post for three years starting in 2017.
Chairperson Jeong Yong-gun served as chair of the publicness committee at the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU).
The National Pension executive candidate recommendation committee will conduct interviews with them and then recommend multiple candidates to the Minister of Health and Welfare. Once the Minister recommends a candidate, the president will make the final appointment.
The National Pension Service initiated an open recruitment process for chair selection on the 22nd of last month as incumbent Chair Kim Tae-hyun's term ended. The term of the National Pension Service chair is three years.
