The Korea Exchange (KRX) said on the 4th that it held the "2025 Sound Capital Market Forum."
About 120 experts from academia, the legal community, the financial investment industry, and related institutions attended the forum held that day at the Korea Exchange (KRX) conference hall in Yeouido, Seoul. The forum featured presentations and a panel discussion under the theme "In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), the evolution and challenges of Korea's capital market."
Market Surveillance Committee Chair Kim Hong-sik said, "Even amid positive market momentum, including the KOSPI index hitting a record high, we need to respond preemptively to technological changes and prepare to leap toward the capital market of the future."
Securities and Futures Commission Standing Commissioner Park Min-u said, "The government is continuing efforts to establish a trusted market order, including the creation and operation of a joint response team to eradicate stock price manipulation," and added, "I hope this forum will serve as a venue to identify policy tasks for that."
At the event, Professor Cho Sung-jun of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University delivered the first presentation on the theme "Changes that AI technology will bring to the capital market." Using major cases from the overseas financial investment industry, he explained the concept and characteristics of AI finance, which contrasts with existing digital finance, and presented the need to transition to AI finance and execution strategies to enhance financial institutions' adaptability.
Professor Kang Hyeong-gu of the Department of Finance and Management at Hanyang University gave a presentation on the theme "The impact and risks of AI technology in asset management and trading." He discussed the effects AI technology has across asset management and trading and the key risks.
The panel discussion was moderated by Senior Research Fellow Yeon Tae-hoon of the Korea Institute of Finance. Attorney Kim Si-mok of Yulchon, Partner Kim Jin-suk of Korea Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), Research Fellow Roh Sung-ho of the Korea Capital Market Institute, and Director General Noh Hyeon-bin of Shinhan Investment & Securities presented views on the changes AI technology will bring to Korea's capital market and the directions for management and regulation in response.
