As of 9:06 a.m., the KOSPI index was at 3,894.29, up 49.32 points (1.27%) from the previous session. The KOSPI index opened at 3,893.23, up 1.24% from the day before, and climbed as high as 3,903.81 intraday, recapturing the 3,900 level in a day.
In the main board, individuals and institutions were net buyers of 68.8 billion won and 36.0 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors were net sellers of 87.3 billion won.
The KOSDAQ index was up 6.51 points (0.75%) to 878.54. On the KOSDAQ market, individuals were net buyers of 88.2 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions were net sellers of 78.9 billion won and 1.3 billion won, respectively.
The three major indexes on Wall Street finished higher overnight. The White House confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next week, boosting expectations.
On the 23rd (local time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 144.20 points (0.31%) higher at 46,734.61. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 39.04 points (0.58%) to 6,738.44, and the Nasdaq composite added 201.40 points (0.89%) to close at 22,941.80.
