After rebreaking through the 3,900 mark intraday in a single day, the KOSPI index is extending gains. Semiconductor and secondary battery-related stocks are leading the rise in the index, while pharmaceutical and biotech corporations are weak.
As of 11:10 a.m. on the 24th, the KOSPI index is up 76.35 points (1.909%) from the previous trading day at 3,921.91. The KOSPI index opened at 3,893.23, up 1.24% from the day before.
In the stock market, foreigners and institutions are buying 235.7 billion won and 478.9 billion won, respectively. Individuals are selling 688.7 billion won.
Semiconductor names including Samsung Electronics (2.33%) and SK hynix (6.37%) are strong, and secondary-battery maker LG Energy Solution (4.69%), shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (2.6%), and nuclear power corporations Doosan Enerbility (4.06%) are also rising sharply.
The KOSDAQ index is up 8.85 points (1.01%) from the previous day at 880.88. In the KOSDAQ market, individuals and institutions are net buying 30.8 billion won and 63.1 billion won, respectively, while foreigners are net selling 80.2 billion won.
In the KOSDAQ market, secondary battery stocks are strong, while biotech corporations are faltering. Ecopro and ECOPRO BM are up 5.46% and 7.61%, respectively. Alteogen, the No. 1 KOSDAQ stock by market cap and a leading biotech name, is down 0.55%. PharmaResearch (-1.6%) and LigaChem Biosciences (-0.97%) are also weak.
Meanwhile, at the same time, the won-dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,433.9 won per U.S. dollar, down 3.5 won from the previous trading day.
