Hanyang Securities said on the 22nd that it created a global investment bank (IB) unit and, within six months, sealed a series of overseas funding deals.
According to Hanyang Securities, the global IB unit recently wrapped up the following: ▲ an €85 million loan to NEXEN TIRE's Czech subsidiary ▲ agency work for a 250 billion won syndication for Hanwha Ocean ▲ arrangement of a $70 million loan for Hyundai Steel ▲ advisory on a 50 billion won loan for Daishin F&I.
In March this year, Hanyang Securities set up a global IB unit within its capital markets division focused on arranging, underwriting, and advising on syndicated loans and privately placed bonds.
Hanyang Securities also hired Noh Hyeong-seok, an overseas finance specialist, to lead the global IB unit. After graduating from the economics department at the University of Wisconsin, Noh handled corporate finance, syndication, export credit agency (ECA) export finance, and global IB financing for more than 15 years at domestic and overseas financial institutions including HSBC, China Construction Bank (CCB), Crédit Agricole S.A., Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and BNK Investment & Securities.
Noh Hyeong-seok said, "Until now, we have built our track record mainly on liability-type transactions such as syndicated loans, but going forward we plan to expand into equity-type transactions with companies listed on overseas exchanges such as NASDAQ in the United States, IDX in Indonesia, and SET in Thailand," adding, "By combining our global network with the capital markets know-how within the division, we will provide comprehensive overseas financial solutions that cover both debt and equity."
Hanyang Securities plans to expand the scope of work for its global IB unit as well. A Hanyang Securities official said, "We will strengthen our global financial service capabilities by expanding cooperation not only with overseas financial institutions but also with local law and accounting firms and IBs," adding, "We aim to build a global IB platform that goes beyond simple financial arranging to include structuring and consulting functions."
