Paganiqa Country Club (CC), a public-access golf course in Chuncheon, Gangwon, has been acquired by real estate company Daom Holdings. The final contract was signed about a month after it was selected as the preferred bidder. Through the acquisition of Paganiqa CC, Daom Holdings will form a tourism belt connecting Chuncheon, Cheongju in North Chungcheong, and Gimcheon in North Gyeongsang.
On the 23rd, an investment banking (IB) industry source said Daom Holdings affiliate Daom D'Noel recently signed an asset transfer agreement for Paganiqa CC. Paganiqa CC will be operated under the name Serenity Gangchon starting in October.
ST Golf, the sale advisor for Paganiqa CC, selected B.P. Asset Management as the preferred bidder in early last month. The sale price was 135 billion won, about 7.5 billion won per hole. Major domestic asset managers and affiliates of large corporations are reported to have participated in the bidding.
Until now, the preferred bidder for Paganiqa CC was known only as B.P. Asset Management, and it remained unclear which company would actually provide the funds and operate the course.
Daom Holdings is a real estate company that has mainly developed and operated high-value-added mixed-use assets and participated in this acquisition as a strategic partner. It will lead the capital investment and golf course operation and take charge of development planning.
Daom Holdings currently owns and operates the 27-hole Gyeongbuk Gimcheon Podo CC and the 27-hole North Chungcheong Cheongju Serenity CC. It is also developing mixed resorts in Cheongju, Samcheok in Gangwon, and Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang.
Serenity Cheongju was acquired by Daom Holdings in 2020. Since then, through clubhouse remodeling, course readjustment, expansion of auxiliary facilities, and a 9-hole expansion, it is regarded as having risen to a high-end course.
A golf industry official said Daom Holdings has completed the foundation for building a wide-area tourism hub connecting the central inland region and the Seoul metropolitan area with this acquisition of Paganiqa CC.
Daom Holdings said Serenity is an English word meaning "peace of mind" and "clear tranquility," conveying the appeal of a golf course where players can enjoy rounds in harmony with nature, and that Serenity Gangchon and Cheongju will be operated as an integrated brand while Podo CC will keep its existing name to preserve regional identity.
This transaction was carried out by sale advisor ST Golf. ST Golf confirmed the preferred bidder within a month and completed the sale contract. Shim Jae-hoon, the chief executive leading ST Golf, previously led numerous large golf course mergers and acquisitions at Anjin and Samjeong accounting firms.
