Moreh, an artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure solutions startup, has launched efforts to raise up to 40 billion won in new funding.

On the 22nd, according to the venture capital (VC) industry, Moreh recently finalized plans to secure 30 billion to 40 billion won in new investment and has begun a demand survey targeting domestic VCs and other financial investors (FIs).

This comes about two years after it raised a Series B round from Smilegate Investment and Forest Partners in Oct. 2023, and the current fundraising is understood to be a Series B bridge round.

The company's valuation was set at about 350 billion won on a post-money basis. Forest Ventures is said to have led the investment and already executed part of it.

Moreh launched in 2020 as an infrastructure software company that supports efficient training and operation of AI models. Its main product is a software platform that supports computation parallelization and distributed optimization.

Moreh drew attention from the capital market from its early days after it was reported that Yoon Do-yeon, a former director of business development at semiconductor fabless FADU and the son-in-law of Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, participated as a founding member.

Yoon served as co-CEO of Moreh and is reported to have presented the technology at Viva Technology, Europe's largest startup fair. He stepped down as CEO at the end of 2023.

Moreh again attracted attention after being selected as a partner to strengthen KT's AI infrastructure capabilities. In Sep. 2021 KT invested about 3.1 billion won in Moreh, securing more than 7% equity.

Investor interest is said to be relatively high because Moreh established a subsidiary, Motif Technologies, centered on core personnel from its AI division and has started developing its own large language model (LLM).

In fact, Moreh is expected to use the funds from this round for operating expenses, including securing additional graphics processing units (GPUs), hiring additional personnel and developing LLM model technologies.

A VC industry official said, "Investor interest across AI is high," adding, "With Forest Ventures already agreeing to invest 14 billion won in Moreh, the fundraising is expected to be completed within the year."
